Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A gabbroic source in the St Keverne area of the Lizard peninsula was used for most Cornish pottery from the Early Neo to the RB period. Examples have been found over 100 miles from source. The Lizard Project initiated in 1978 to search for manufacturing sites has revealed none, perhaps because clamp-firing would have left little trace and because sherds are destroyed by continual ploughing. Experimental firing might give clues to the advantages of gabbroic clays; the analysis of local variants in gabbro could also be a fruitful area of research. F B (See also 88/1297, 1410.) | |||||
