Abstract:		 Information derived from documentary and environmental studies, excavation, and survey is incorporated into a comprehensive interpretation focused on one upland community in the period AD 1100-1700. The governing concept is to study how humans interact with natural resources, and a theoretical dynamic model was developed to explain the changing modes of land tenure and exploitation for tin and agriculture. Detailed survey of field systems, settlements, tinworks and mills was made and several sites excavated (substantial pottery report). In St Neot parish on Bodmin Moor the story is one of successful adaptation to the environment, with occasional episodes of reversal and readjustment; however, the impact of modern technology and international economies may prevent the landscape from healing itself this time, quite apart from the many features now submerged in Colliford Reservoir.
