Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Chapters written by Roger Mercer and Patricia Christie in 1986 on the Neolithic and Bronze Age of Cornwall for the 25th-anniversary volume of Cornish Archaeology, summarising the then current state of knowledge, remain the last thorough synthesis of these periods in the county. The last twenty-five years have witnessed a dramatic increase in knowledge, largely brought about by developer-funded projects on lowland areas. This article breaks the Neolithic and Bronze Age down into sub-periods and looks in detail at developments in knowledge and understanding since 1986, focusing on key findings from recent archaeological investigations in Cornwall. It is now clear that well-preserved monuments represent only a small part of human activity and that the lowlands were at least as densely developed as the moors. However, a number of questions still remain. LD | |||||
