Abstract:
A series of low tides between 1985 and 1989 revealed 112 wooden stakes on the beach at Whiteford in north west Gower. They are arranged in a `funnel' shape and it is proposed that they supported wattling to form a fish trap. Radiocarbon dating of timber samples provided thirteenth- and early fourteenth-century dates. It is proposed that the weir was one of a series which may have belonged to the Benedictine or Cistercian houses in the vicinity.
