Abstract:
Maintains that the archaeology of pilgrimage has for too long concentrated on destinations, and that if journeys are considered at all they focus on major centres. This paper forms an attempt to trace the route to a lesser place: that from the Cistercian abbey of Llantarnam to the shrine of the Virgin Mary at Penrhys in the Rhondda. The shrine is described, as is the route and the sources used to identify it are summarised.
