Anticipating the imminent Parliamentary debate on Lord Perth's bill (prepared by the Surrey Archaeological Society and the British Museum), this article summarises criticisms of the existing legislation in England and Wales, and highlights the advantages of the Scottish system. The failure, in 1982, of a previous bill is also noted. Two torcs from the Snettisham hoard are illustrated. |
