A study of beaches, dunes, machair and links areas in the Outer Hebrides, Sutherland, Caithness, Aberdeenshire and elsewhere in Scotland, on the basis of structure, materials, processes and morphology, time and sea-level change. A fall in sea-level initiates dune-building, while a rising sea-level results in stability and erosional or redepositional changes. A major factor in coastal sand accumulation in Scotland was the rapid Flandrian rise in sea-level which was completed c 3500-3000 BC (see also 72/1547). A R |
