Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Report on a substantial chert assemblage recovered from a site at Glentaggart in South Lanarkshire in 2001. As the entire southern quarter of prehistoric Scotland was dominated by the use of chert as a raw material for lithic tools, and as no Scottish chert assemblages, excavated and recorded according to modern standards, have been published fully, the opportunity was taken to present and discuss one such assemblage in detail. The main purposes of the paper are to characterise and date the assemblage, and increase understanding of how the inherent properties of chert affected the knappers' operational schema and influenced the morphology of their lithic products. | |||||
