Gives an overview of the themes and topics covered by the meeting of the Lithic Studies Society, in October 1995, from which several of the papers in this volume are drawn. Many stimulating ideas covering aspects of the location, recovery and interpretation of lithic scatters were raised during the day. Some new initiatives and developments are discussed, including a joint venture between the Oxford Archaeological Unit and Wessex Archaeology ('Framework Archaeology'). This will adopt an integrated approach using finds, environmental, computing and other specialists on site during the course of an evaluation. Such an approach will only be feasible for larger projects. The establishment of research priorities and guidelines for the recording of lithics is advocated. LD | ||
