During the 1930s E H Willock excavated a Neolithic site just north of the Haldon Belvedere. The service trenches made necessary by the 1990s renovation of this eighteenth-century monument were observed, with some small-scale excavation. Extensive use of the hilltop during the Early Neolithic was demonstrated, some data produced suggesting post-Neolithic use of the site, and information recorded about the Belvedere's construction and associated landscaping.
