Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Description of the Romanesque font and its recorded history, including speculations concerning its origin. The motifs in its seven medallions are described, and the author suggests that these combine to make a basic teaching programme for illiterate villagers. Comparative examples of the individual motifs are described from a wide range of locations, suggesting that the subjects carved and their forms may have been available from some wider network or authority within the twelfth-century Church. | ||
