Reports the results of a field programme to survey the fort, record vernacular standing buildings, undertake geophysical survey, and excavate sections through Dere Street, the Roman road. Four stone phases were isolated on the west curtain wall -- the first phase associated with an Antonine inscription, the fourth with one of the Severan period. Evidence from Dere Street exhibited a reduction in width over time, in line with the supposed concomitant reduction in status of the fort. | |||||
