Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Architectural and documentary evidence points to a completion date of 1177 for this Augustinian priory. The history and life of the order are summarised, along with a description of the priory's possible layout and its later history. Recent investigation of the previously unrecorded eastern part of the church revealed that most of the foundations had been robbed, but the basic layout was established and some earlier buildings identified. The discovery of a crypt suggests the priory had a relic (?St Botolph), although excavations were too limited to establish the chamber's full extent. AR | ||
