Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A hoard of bronzes recorded in 1849 and now housed at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh inspired the idea that there may be further Bronze Age evidence in Sleat. Four occupation/settlement sites were identified with two, sites C and B, being particularly promising. Site B, a possible hut circle, had experienced no later over building and so retained a few deposits. Site C also appeared to represent a hut circle and had undergone later activity. Internal features included a hearth area, radiocarbon dated in an Appendix (42--3) to the Viking period. Later re-use of ancient sites is not unknown so this need not indicate a post-Bronze Age date for occupation. | |||||||
