Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
An account of material that may represent Anglo-Saxon clothing and can be used in reconstructions. Textile and leather remains, along with the position of dress fastenings and accessories when recovered as gravegoods, are combined with comparative Continental evidence to produce possible reconstructions. Such reconstructions can be found in museums as well as on the site of projects such as West Stow Anglo-Saxon village. The Dark Ages Society are also useful in as much as they test the practical aspects of clothing during their re-enactments. Germanic and Viking evidence for clothing styles is cited, as well as Romano-German sculpture. | |||||
