Abstract:
Marks the 1600th anniversary of the death of Magnus Maximus, whose failed usurpation was followed by a recovery of Roman control of Britain, unlike the events of 411 which saw the end of coin flow into Britain, hence the end of taxation and loss of the economy's mainspring. The Anglo-Saxons merely took advantage of a power vacuum.
