Evidence suggests that the first horizontal loom was developed by Roman weavers in the eastern provinces, probably in Syria, not long before AD 250. The evidence is of multiple heddle rods, damask silks, and geometrical patterns. An advanced model was available by 400. (Includes evidence from Holborough, Kent). | ||
