Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Selected assemblages of eighteenth and nineteenth century pottery and glass from later contexts of excavations on Roman and medieval sites in Carmarthen since 1978, are briefly described. A full catalogue is given of a nineteenth century group of pottery and glass from 7 Spilman Street, Carmarthen. Similarly, a full catalogue is given of clay pipes recovered from all the Carmarthen excavations. These catalogues are prefaced by summary details of the location and nature of the excavations, and a historical introduction. This examines patterns of production, marketing and supply, and describes the growth of specialist china and glass shops. Amongst other source material use is made of contemporary newspaper advertisements and images to illustrate the social context of the artefacts. | |||||||||||
