TQ 256867. Multidisciplinary investigation of a deposit in bog 300m from a Mesolithic occupation site on Hampstead Heath is providing rare evidence about man's effect on the vegetational succession of SE England. Samples for pollen, seed and insect analyses were collected from the boggy area; the pollen record suggests a forest with lime dominant, a phenomenon seen in several other parts of S and E England in the Atlantic period. P D Moore (same volume pp 13-14) does not accept that lime dominance was necessarily general rather than local. | |||||
