Abstract:		 The author discusses the provenance and history of an antler mattock in the Hunterian Museum in Glasgow, believed from the 1950s until the 1990s to be part of a collection of Obanian Mesolithic material deriving from Cnoc Sligeach, Oronsay. Research has since shown the mattock to have been part of a different collection, and to have been discovered in an Early Bronze Age cist on Crantit Farm near Kirkwall, Orkney; radiocarbon dating has confirmed this attribution.
