Abstract:
The fifteen artefacts now dated by AMS imply a strong element of continuity in the development of bone and antler technology, and show that (contra Jacobi) both projectile points and heavy-duty tools continued in manufacture during the later stages of the Mesolithic. Antler mattocks are shown characteristic of the British Mesolithic; 'Maglemosian' forms are not exclusively Early Meso but have a minimum range of about 12 400 to 9 200 BP; 'Obanian' barbed points are much earlier than thought, eg about 6 700 BP, and they overlap with microlithic assemblages.
