[NZ 0516] New ground floor Great Hall added soon after 1233, rebuilt in early 14th century when the outer (E) ward was abandoned and a more complex inner gatehouse erected, with a postern giving access to the new river bridge downstream from the Roman ford. A drain of late 15th century, reported by A M Donaldson et al, contained kitchen waste attesting a very varied diet. D F R
