Abstract:
The article discusses the decision of an Inspector on a Listed Buildings appeal, concerning the replacement, at the chapel of Sir William Turner's Hospital, Kirkleatham, Redcar, of a gilt-wood chandelier, recognised as not being part of the original fittings, with a Dutch eighteenth-century brass chandelier of a design and age contemporary with the mid-eighteenth-century remodelling of the chapel. The decision, and the article, consider the question of whether or not the chandelier was a fixture.
