Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A report in six sections including information on archaeological work to date and features uncovered during recent excavations, including the Friary structures, destruction rubble, the Friary environs, cross shaped trenches and concomitant wall trenches, a buttress trench and miscellaneous pits and ditches. The method of analysis involved the use of a specific Bedford typology intended to be compatible with national series and the recording of fabric and form details on computer to be statistically analysed by a variety of programs. Examples that do not correspond to an existing Bedford category are also considered. There are analyses of specific areas where significant amounts of material were recovered and the conclusion isolates two main periods of activity, speculates on the nature of the trade between the Friary and the Flitwick kiln, and ventures that the cross trenches were formal gardens.
