On the importance of studying, recording and understanding later twentieth-century material on the same basis as other periods, and questions arising from this such as the selection of material for study and recording, the need to ensure that a wide range of aspects of modern material culture are represented and the recognition of landscape as a twentieth-century creation in terms of both what has survived and what has been added. The article lists a number of areas for research and explores possible future directions. |
