[TF 025700]. The historical background is outlined. The hall (built partly over the bailey ditch) was at first square (four piers within) and then had a solar and cellar attached. The hall was then narrowed, resited, and extended in turn over the cellar, and a courtyard added. A late Saxon V-section ditch was found with ovens and a Stamford ware pottery kiln.
