Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Fragments of a vessel from the debris over House VIII, SW of the legionary fortress, seem to be part of a globular bottle with a short cylindrical neck (Isings form 103). The main outlines of the figures are deeply cut, with details indicated by scratched lines. Insufficient remains to identify the scene portrayed, which contains parts of five figures, one apparently a Triton. On grounds of form, decoration and stratigraphy the bottle, much the finest of this cut, scratched style known in Britain, is assignable to late 3rd cent AD. |
