Botanical and chemical work on ditch deposits at the Roman fort of Bearsden revealed the use of imported plant foods, grain cooked to bread-temperature, wild fruits and other plants giving clues to the immediate environment of the fort and its exploitation, and evidence of native clearance before the Roman arrival.
