Review-article concentrating on one of the many themes explored in this collection of essays, that of continuity of settlement site/population group/territorial organization. It is instructive to note that the current ferment of ideas about medieval settlement generally owes less to the newer techniques like palaeobotany than to traditional types of evidence (documents, place-names, historical geography, archaeology) examined in a fresh light. |
