Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Reports on excavations undertaken in 1989 on the site of the medieval priory and hospital. An area to the south-east of the priory (adjacent to Old Abbey Lane and Pixwell lane) was found to have been open ground until the sixteenth century, when a terrace of tenement houses was built. However the western lip of a large ditch -- possibly the twelfth-century town ditch -- was identified and a single Christian-type burial was found. An area to the south of the medieval priory church revealed remains of the claustral buildings, some of which are tied in with preliminary interventions (unpublished), and a section was extended towards the River Boyne to examine the sequence of river-front deposits. Finds reports include: an analysis of architectural fragments; a `Ceramic report', by Kieran Campbell (481--95), which examines a wide range of medieval imported wares and also covers roof and floor tiles; a `Human bone report' by Laureen Buckley (495--504). | ||
