Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Based on a survey carried out in 1981 as part of the author's unpublished MA thesis, this is a full description, with accurate plans and photographs, of Hatch's Castle (summarised in the same journal in 1984). Hatch's Castle is one of two surviving fortified town houses in the centre of Ardee; it is inhabited and lies between two terraced houses on Market Street. The article includes a short discussion of the evidence for other fifteenth and sixteenth century houses in Ardee and elsewhere in Ireland (see also 93/577). |
