Abstract:
Report on an archaeological excavation carried out at 24/25 West Street/Stockwell Lane, Drogheda, in 2002 in advance or redevelopment. Evidence was found of occupation from the thirteenth/fourteenth century through to the present day, although property and plot boundaries appear not to have been consistent throughout that time, having been realigned during the seventeenth century. Finds included assemblages of medieval and post-medieval pottery; medieval floor tiles; clay pipe fragments; copper alloy, iron, steel and wooden objects. The medieval occupation, the laneway identified along the western extent of the excavation, and the post-medieval building sequence are discussed.
