[TL 7805]. Excavation of a practically complete establishment, operating between c 1275/85 and 1325/35, revealed workmen's accommodation, a workshop, a drying shed and two kilns, all within a ditched enclosure. The kilns were of normal type with two parallel flues. Some experimental work supports the discussion on methods of manufacture and firing. Pattern derivations and product distributions are discussed. A mortar of Pennines Millstone Grit, at present in Little Baddow Church, probably came from the tilery originally. Au(abr/adp) | |||||
