Abstract:		 Article about the archaeological monitoring of several cleaning and refurbishment recording projects t St Paul's Cathedral in the City of London in 2003--5, focusing on the west end of the cathedral. The article gives an overview of the history of the construction of this part of the cathedral, before going on to describe a range of historic graffiti dating to between 1759 and the 1790s from around the west doors; and from inside the cupola of the south-west tower, the dates inscribed being 1788. The construction and history of the west steps is also described.
