Abstract:		 Description of three brass boxes, one of which is identified as a `log timer' or `Dutchman's log'. The latter box, dated to 1766 by an inscription, with curved ends, incorporates a perpetual calendar on the lid and a speed table on the base, along with other engravings and inscriptions. One of the other two boxes is identified as a `smoker's companion'.
