Abstract:
Significant Roman features including foundations, two kilns and a well were revealed during an excavation in advance of development. The paper summarises the findings, and concludes that pottery production was one of the primary functions of this part of Fisher Street in the late 1st/2nd century AD. The finds assemblage indicates that other industrial activities were being carried out in the near vicinity during the same period. These included glass-working, iron-working, non-ferrous metalworking, and textile and leather working. There was nothing in the finds assemblage of a military nature. LD
