Abstract:
A systematic search around Seascale led to discoveries of flint artefacts in ten out of sixty fields. Flint knives, scrapers, axe fragments and a single microlith were found, suggesting that a number of small occupation sites existed within easy reach of pebble flints from the seashore. Most of the sites are on well-drained land close to a good water-supply. One of the axe fragments is of Ronaldsway type and illustrates the cultural interchange between coastal Cumberland and the Isle of Man in the Neolithic period.
