Abstract:
Reports surface collection and resistivity survey on a cropmark site. The samian and coarse wares indicate a late Neronian/early Flavian date. The fort, at 3.4ha, is the largest in Cumbria and confirms that the Roman army did not bypass the Lake District at this period, but was concerned to control the Cumbrian plain and contain the natives of the massif to the south.
