Abstract:		 Trial trenches in the proposed car-park site north of the Vallum revealed portions of two buildings, one perhaps a funerary monument, in the W sector. The vallum was reduced when the fort was built, but further work will establish the relationship between fort ditches, gateway and vallum. The samian collection is particularly interesting in its many parallels not only with material from the Period Ib re-occupation of Hadrian's Wall, but also with pottery from Pennine and other hinterland forts. Conversely, the scarcity of Scottish parallels indicates that for much of the Late Antonine period, after c AD 160, Carrawburgh was held and the Antonine Wall was not.
