Abstract:		 TG 224088; 236092. Excavations in 1971 were designed to test a settlement model for the late 11th century extrapolated from 14th century documents. Three sites were dug, one in St Benedict's Street South and two in Bishopsgate. These produced structural and material evidence of all periods from late Saxon onwards which, taken with previous work in the city, agrees well with the postulated population distribution.
