Abstract:
Provides a summary of recent work undertaken close to the likely thirteenth-century location of the friary. A building survey and watching brief targeted Raven Yard, behind 70 King Street. Although the friary was not located, fieldwork established that settlement had begun by the mid- to late-eleventh century AD. The building survey noted that the seventeenth-century rebuild of 72 King Street appears to incorporate elements of Beck College, which was still in existence in the late-fifteenth century.
