Abstract: |
A brief account is given of unpublished Romano-British artefacts discovered during the
excavation of a prominent subrectangular enclosure (David Sturdy's Site C) in Levens
Park, Cumbria in 1968-71. The dig was conducted to assess the potential archaeological
impact of a new road across the northern end of the park. Finds included a silver
denarius of Domitian and several types of pottery of different dates, including samian
ware, orange Roman mortarium ware and Romano-British plainware, with dark grey
to black surfaces and fabric. The positions of the finds are located on Sturdy's newly
rediscovered excavation plan of the site. |
