Presents the results of English Heritage sponsored survey work undertaken in 1998 and 1999 in one of seven areas making up the Humber wetlands (see also 96/1053, 98/1347, and below. The introductory section includes an `Introduction to the survey of the Hull Valley' by Robert Van de Noort & John Etté (1--5); `Physical background to the Hull Valley' by Stephen Ellis (7--12); and `Landuse in the Hull Valley' by Richard Middleton (13--20). The palaeoenvironmental programme is discussed in: `Introduction to the palaeoenvironmental survey of the Hull Valley' by Malcolm Lillie & Benjamin Gearey (21--8); `The palaeoenvironmental survey of the Hull Valley' by Malcolm Lillie & Benjamin Gearey (31--82). An account of the archaeological programme is provided by: `Introduction to the archaeological survey' by Helen Fenwick, Gavin Thomas & Robert Van de Noort (87--103); `The archaeological survey the Hull Valley' by Henry Chapman, William Fletcher, Helen Fenwick, Malcolm Lillie & Gavin Thomas (105-- 73); `The Hull Valley from the air: a landscape in context' by Henry Chapman (175--81); `Medieval sites in the Hull Valley: distribution and modelling' by Helen Fenwick (183--91); `Archaeology in the modern city of Kingston upon Hull, and recent research at Kingswood' by D H Evans (193--216); and `The Early Medieval site at Skerne' by John Dent, Chris Loveluck & William Fletcher (217--42).
