Abstract: |
A comprehensive account of the island, castle and churchyard from the earliest traces of occupation in the form of Roman pot sherds and a post-Roman citadel, to the building of the castle and later post medieval activity. The area's somewhat tenuous Arthurian associations, originally inspired by the writings of Geoffrey of Monmouth and reinforced by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, are also considered. |
