Abstract: |
With particular emphasis on the first three hundred years of the Anglo-Saxon period (the fifth to eighth centuries) the book deals with aspects ranging from countrywide settlement patterns and building organisation, rural economy, and the development of estate centres, to burial practices and funerary monuments, with particular reference to cemetery data and the reflection of social status with high-status warrior burial. The emergence of distinct kingdoms is charted, along with evidence for manufacture and trade, and a chapter deals with the later Anglo-Saxon period. |
