The proceedings of a conference held in York in 1994. The `Foreword' is given by Tom Hassall (ii) and the `Introduction' by Peter Burman (1). Five regional studies are described: `A systematic method of recording historic farm buildings: a case study from north-east Wales' by Eurwyn Wiliam (9--12), `Recording farms in Hampshire 1981--1993' by Edwin Course (13--16), `Documenting National Trust farm buildings in the Lake District' by Susan Denyer (17--20), `Documentary description or buildings as documents: Recording farm buildings in Kent' by Jane Wade (26--7), and `Identifying systems within farm steadings: a Scottish case-study' by John Shaw (28--33). Susanna Wade Martins (2--7) describes `Historic farm buildings in context: documentary research in the recording process' and P S Barnwell & A T Adams (34--9) describe `Recording for the archive: field survey and the public record'. `Managing change: the listing of historic farm buildings' is presented by Jeremy Lake (21--5). The `Summing up' by Geoffrey Stell (40--2) is followed by a record of the ensuing discussion. |
