Abstract: |
Excavation of accumulated colluvium and a programme of systematic surface collection was undertaken to determine the character of flint exploitation at Beer. Three-dimensional recording of excavated finds enabled the identification of distinct chronological episodes. The earliest pottery was Hembury ware, while Peterborough ware and Beaker sherds were also present. Subsistence from shellfish and cereals was also evinced. Fieldwalking did not identify specialised working areas, but two concentrations of retouched tools revealed, on excavation, the use of both local and imported stone in possibly ritual contexts. |
