Abstract: |
"A synthesis for students and scholars" contains contributions from eight writers and a final summary. Charles McBurney (pp 9-29) covers the period up to c 33,000 BC, Denise de Sonneville-Bordes treats the Upper Palaeolithic to 10,000 BC (30-60) and M Escalon de Fonton's contribution takes us to 4000 BC (61-101). The first agriculturists are discussed by Gerard Bailloud (102-30). At 1800 BC Jacques Briard takes over (131-56) until 600 BC. The Iron Age is discussed by F R Hodson and R M Rowlett (157-91) while Lady (Olwen) Brogan describes the establishment of Roman Gaul (192-219). Stuart Piggott and Glyn Daniel summarise the salient features of recent research. |
