General topics covered are frontier studies 1949-69 (E Birley, pp 1-4), Roman body-armour (H R Robinson, 5-12), difficulties in accepting Richmond's fort-types for the different auxiliary units (D J Breeze and B Dobson, 13-19) and Roman military training grounds (R W Davies, 20-26). Tacitus on the conquest of Wales is re-examined (D R Dudley, 27-33) with Roman and native in Wales (J Davies, 34-43) and the central Welsh borderland (S C Stanford, 44-60) respectively. The military occupation in the SW (A Fox, 84-93), Antonine Wall river-crossings (A Robertson, 94-101) and the location of Valentia (A Dornier, 102-5) are also discussed. Other papers include general surveys of the frontiers of the West and the Balkans, and site-reports for Baginton and Usk. B D |
