Abstract: |
The aim of this volume is to publish contexts which will be quotable in any future work, and to provide a corpus of the finds, especially the pottery. The sites, which were all worked under the aegis of the Winchester City Museum, are grouped into four main suburbs with a short survey of research and excavation, and an assessment of the pattern of development through Roman and medieval times. Numerous structures are reported, together with burials (cremation and inhumation, sometimes well furnished), deposits of loomweights, bronze-casting pits, medieval pits, etc. The Iron Age defences were also examined, and 12th century and later levels by St Paul's church were recorded. |
